There are just a few weeks to go until the convention – we’re so excited about it and we hope you are too!
A Golden Slipper race is being held on Saturday the 28th of March at Rosehill Gardens, so if you’re thinking of booking accommodation you should do so sooner rather than later. You can use your favourite booking site to find a room, or you can use our booking form for the Holiday Inn Parramatta.
The NSW State Election is also being held on the 28th, so you may want to vote at pre-poll. If you’re voting on the day, the closest polling places are at Parramatta Town Hall or Rowland Hassall School, which will be marked on the map in your showbag. We won’t tell you how to vote, but remember, preferences are very important. 😉
We know you love giveaways so we have some really amazing stuff for you to win this year, especially for our pre-registration giveaway and our competitions for cosplay, fanart sketches and fanfic drabbles. Prizes include Madman online shopping vouchers, Siren Visual DVDs, comics and merchandise by HamletMachine, Emirain and Guilt|Pleasure, and accessories by Mogo&Co. Pre-registering really helps us to plan a better convention experience for you, so please buy your tickets ahead of time if you’re able to do so – it means you can save a few dollars on the ticket price, too.
One of our past attendees is a PhD student who is conducting a study on the legal aspects of anime and manga. If you’re a fan living in Australia aged between 18 and 25, please fill out her survey if you have time to assist with her research. If you have any problems accessing the survey, please email haa670 at uowmail dot edu dot au.
In case you aren’t already aware, tickets for Room 801: Mile High Club are on sale and you can get a discount if you register before the end of this month.
This year’s social event on Friday the 27th of March is a walking tour of locations around the Sydney CBD that are featured in the Free! anime, followed by a train back to Parramatta and a friendly catchup over drinks. The event is exclusive to our Premium attendees, speakers and exhibitors. Premium tickets are only available until the end of February and are selling steadily, so if you want the full experience of the convention make sure you get in quick.
Thanks to everyone who answered our call for expressions of interest in our last post. We’ve almost finished getting in touch with everyone and our program and trader list are even bigger and better than last year. We’d still like to hear your suggestions for the Swap Meet video playlist and what you’d like to see in a yuri-specific presentation or discussion – get in touch!
It’s official! Room 801: Mile High Club will be held on 28-29 March 2015 at the Holiday Inn, Parramatta. Registration will be opening this month; if you were a Premium attendee at our first event or if you’re a member of an anime club, stay tuned for details of some special discounts.
As with last year, your suggestions always help us put together a better convention! Expressions of interest are now open for the following:
If you have a general suggestion or just want to send us a message, you can use our contact form at any time.
Please help us out by spreading the word, and consider joining our Facebook event!
Sorry for the delay, but we’ve finally emailed all of the winners of our huge pre-registration giveaway! Please check your inbox and your junk mail folders, just in case. The final couple of hentai DVDs and raffle prizes will be mailed out this weekend, so those should reach their new owners in the next week too.
Thank you to everyone who pre-registered for your support, and thank you to Madman, AarinFantasy, SuBLime Manga, Siren Visual, Jozef Szekeres, Caleyndar, PenguinFrontier and Aphin123 for making it possible to give out such a great range of prizes.
It’s been a whole month since the con, so it’s about time to relive the memories of Room 801 with some of these great convention reports…
If you’ve put up a report somewhere and would like us to link to it, just comment on this post or email us. If you want to give us feedback on the con anonymously, you can still do that via our attendee survey. We can confirm that we’re doing research into running more events, so your feedback is very important to us!
Three of our raffle prizes have been claimed (yay), but we still have two left! Edit: we’ve added the unclaimed prizes to our pre-registration prize pool instead. See the next post for details.
We’ve emailed a whole bunch of you about our attendee survey but could definitely use more responses, particularly from people who bought a ticket at the door. The responses to our fan survey last year really helped us put the convention together and make sure it was interesting! If you couldn’t join us at the convention, we’ll be running another general survey soon to help us plan for future events – we’ll post about that when it’s up.
As many of you are aware, we didn’t get a chance to draw the raffle at the closing ceremony yesterday because we all got a bit emotional and carried away (in other words, so many feels).
So we’ve just drawn our raffle now – hopefully you’ve all held on to your tickets! Here are the winners:
Each winner will receive a Room 801 tote bag, a sketchbook, two badges from AarinFantasy (by PenguinFrontier and Aphin123) and an eBook code from SuBLime Manga. To claim your prize, please write your name on your ticket and email a legible scan or mobile phone photo of it to us at room801au (at) gmail (dot) com, with the address you want us to send it to. If we don’t hear from any of our winners by next Monday the 3rd of March, we’ll keep drawing winners until the prizes are all given out.
If you missed out this time, we have at least another giveaway to go – we’ll announce those winners later this week!
We can barely believe it, but Room 801: Forbidden Fruit is over!
When we started brainstorming for the con, we wanted to create a really inclusive, educational, inspiring and fun convention that was mature and classy. We feel like we achieved that this weekend, and it sounds like a whole bunch of you feel the same way! What genuinely surprised and delighted us was watching all of you make new friends and discover all sorts of new things.
We’re going to take a break for a few days while we readjust to our normal lives and review how everything went, but if you have any direct feedback please email us or message us on Twitter/Tumblr/Facebook. If you’d rather give us some general or anonymous feedback, we’ll be emailing out surveys to all attendees in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for those.
To get notified of important news including online merchandise sales, our final giveaways and (dare we say it) future events, we highly recommend signing up for our mailing list – we’ll only ever email you about the convention itself, and your details won’t be given to any third parties.
Once again, thank you to absolutely everyone involved… you just helped us make something wonderful happen!
